Pranama

  • Ashtanga अष्टाङ्ग (Ashta=Eight; Anga=Body parts): Touching the ground with knees, belly, chest, hands, elbows, chin, nose, and temple.
  • Shastanga षष्ठाङ्ग (Shashta=Six; Anga=Body parts): Touching the ground with toes, knees, hands, chin, nose, and temple.
  • Panchanga पञ्चाङ्ग (Pancha=Five; Anga=Body parts): Touching the ground with knees, chest, chin, temple, and forehead.
  • Dandavat दण्डवत् (Dand=Stick): Bowing your forehead down and touching the ground.
  • Abhinandana अभिनन्दन (Congratulations to you): Bending forward with folded hands touching the chest.
  • Namaskar नमस्कार (Bowing to you). The same as doing a Namaste with folded hands and touching the forehead.

The deities of Svayam-vyakta have become their form by self-manifesting.
Deva sthala
Images of the deity set up by divine personalities such as Lord Brahma, Indra, etc.
Arsha or Sidha sthala
Deities set up by great sages are referred to as Arsha-sthala
Pauranika sthala
Images installed in ancient times are known as Pauranika-sthala
Manusha sthala
The god images installed by the devotees are known as Manusha-sthala.
